Grinnell Prize 2019

The Grinnell College awarded the 2019 Grinnell College Innovator for Social Justice Prize to Shafiq R. Khan, Founder and CEO of EMPOWER PEOPLE for fighting to eradicate bride trafficking in North India and to empower the independence, agency and leadership of girls and women who have been affected by this practice. The Grinnell Prize honors individuals who have demonstrated leadership in their fields and who show creativity, commitment and extraordinary accomplishment in effecting positive social change.

Jijabai Award 2020

Shafiq R. Khan was honoured with the Jijabai Award 2020 by the Women Development Cell of Shivaji College, Delhi University at the International Conference on Women’s Leadership for Global Peace and Prosperity. He received the award from Smt. Baby Rani Maurya, Hon. Governor of Uttarakhand, who shared in his observation on the extensive scale of trafficking in the country and far expansive work required in the field of anti-trafficking efforts and commended Shafiq for his dedication to the cause.

Yugantar Award

Shafiq was felicitated with the Yugantar Award by the Institute of Leadership and Governance, M. S. University of Baroda at the National Youth Conference organised for deliberation on contemporary Socio-Political challenges facing India. He received a standing ovation from the audience for his inspiring talk.  The conference also marked the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the visionary founder of the M. S. University of Baroda, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. ​​

Amazing Indian Award 2013 

Shafiq R. Khan was honored with the Amazing Indian Award by Times Now, for his contribution in the anti-trafficking movement in India. Mr. Khan won the award in the Stree Shakti Category for his work in rescuing girls who fall victim to “bride trafficking.” Times Now had instituted this award for the person, who in their words, 'has gone beyond his own circumstances, risen above the norms of society, to make this country a better place to live in.' The stories of Amazing Indians are 'extraordinary stories of compassion, dedication, selfless service, pioneers, educators, and ambitions that are not for the self, but for the Nation. These are real icons of the country - who ought to be followed in every walk of life.'

Social Bravery Award-2013 (CID Gallantry Awards)

Shafiq R. Khan was awarded the Gold medal of ‘CID Gallantry Award’ of Social Bravery for above 15 years of his commitment to the rights of trafficked brides and girls who were living alone and at risk.

ENGO Award

EMPOWER PEOPLE was felicitated by the eNGO Challenge South Asia 2012 which aspired to create an ecosystem by recognizing and honouring NGOs which were using Information Communication Technology (ICT) and digital media tools for good governance and practices that are benefiting societies and communities at large.
It was a joint initiative of Public Interest Registry (PIR) and Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) to recognise Empower People for using Information Communication Technology (ICT) and digital media for good governance transparent practices in combating Bride trafficking and Honour crimes.
